It’s easy for residents of the East End of Ventura to feel disenfranchised and separate from the rest of the city. So much attention is focused on the downtown. There aren’t many projects there except for housing. The one big project there has not even been completed.   I will focus attention on getting the Community Park finished as promised. We need to maximized our use of that land. So much of it is currently just dust fields. More softball fields, more soccer fields, (more parking) along with amenities such as picnic tables and pavilions for people to relax and enjoy the area. We were promised a complete facility and I intend to see that through.

Part of that land would also be well suited for a state of the art Library.  That type of facility is sorely needed on that side of town.  Many East End residents are aware of the fact that they are able to use the resources available at the Ventura City College library but that’s still pretty far for many of them.

Another area in the East End is the approach from the south along the 101. The first impression that visitors get when they arrive along that route is not exactly what our city is about. It gives them a feel of and industrial city. I think some strategic planting of some low maintanance landscaping would go a long way to improving how visitors view our fair city upon their initial visit.  The city would also benefit from some attractive signage welcoming people and providing useful information such as where the Visitor Center is, or how to get to the beach.
